Over
4 BILLION trees are cut down per year for paper
If
everyone recycled, we would have 4 billion more trees every year!
What to do? Recycle
–
Recycling is an important task for each of us to do.
Why? Because recycling helps
the community by saving our forests and keeps landfills low.
Did you know that the highest point in Ohio is a land fill?
No joke, Mount Rumpkee is a landfill full of waste products.
A majority of this wasteland is filled with waste that could have been
recycled. Unfortunately most people
don’t realize how little American’s actually recycle.
It is said that only 1 out of 10 newspapers get recycled.
If we think about how many people purchase newspapers, this is a huge
number. Facts show that newspapers
alone waste over 500,000 trees each year. If
we only recycled this we would have saved a whole forest load of trees.
You might think your contribution to recycling is so “small” that it
isn’t worth the effort. Each American uses around 580 lbs (pounds) of paper
per year. A ton (2,000) pounds of
paper saves over 30 trees!
If each of us does our job to recycle, we can save the environment.
-
Recycling saves our Resources
-
Recycling saves our environment
-
Recycling saves our clean air/removes pollution
-
Recycling saves money
-
Recycling saves land such as Mt. Rumpkee.
-
Recycling saves energy (reduces loggers and keeps
forests green)
What not to do? Litter
–
Littering does not only look awful, it also hurts the
environment. To break down a soda
can, it takes 200 years. Is it
worth throwing a soda can on the ground to have people looking at it for years?
Do your job and recycle it! If
your on a major road and don’t’ want to carry a soda can around town for 20
minutes, drink it and put it in your pocket.
You can then dispose of it when you get to your destination.
Don’t make work harder for others, clean up your mess and get rid of
it.
Wastefulness is being careless.
Do your part to protect our environment
