Here they will give you a list of hazardous materials and the regulations.  Another suggestion is to look in your newspaper or mailing list for a hazard waste mobile that travels around your area.  They park at a location and collect hazardous waste.  Some items cost to get rid of, others are free. Only some states offer this service, so see if yours is one of them.
